The TBMHA League-leading Midget A Westfort Rangers proved that a slow start wasn't going to let them down this weekend at the annual NorWest Minor Hockey Tournament in Stanley.
Despite going 1-2 in the round-robin portion the Rangers came out in a do-or-die game versus the strong Nipigon Elks squad and defeated the Elks by a score of 6-3. In the semi-final game Sunday at Nor West Arena, the Rangers Took a 1-0 lead into the 2nd before allowing 2 goals only 44 seconds apart to the Scheiber North Stars . The Rangers tied it before the end of the 2nd by goals by Nathan D'Angelo and Paul Morabito. In the third the Rangers road the scoring of Mike Tremblay and Nelson Nabigon and Dale Watson closed the door for the 4-2 win putting the Rangers in the final versus the Westfort Maroons.
In the final, the Rangers again started slow allowing three 1st period goals to the Maroons, before Nathan D'Angelo made it 3-1 after 1.
In the 2nd Frankie Crupi and Eric St. jean popped in two goals to end the 2nd tied at 3. In the third the Rangers continued their successful comeback with two goals by Paul Morabito. The Maroons got one late in the third but Tyler Randle shut the door despite a later flurry with the Maroons goalie pulled. Jordan Adduonno had three assists in the win, with other assists going to Frankie Crupi and Mike Boyechko.

The Westfort Rangers were a dominant force in the TBMHA MIdget A Division this year winning the first place trophy as well as the playoff championship. The Rangers had a bye to the semi-final where they quickly displaced the Hurricanes and then met the Westfort Maroons in the final. The Maroons had defeated the Elks and the West End Bruins to make the final. In game one the Rangers came back from a 3-1 deficit to win 5-3. The Maroons reversed the fortune in games 2 and 3 winning by scores of 4-3 (OT) and 6-3. The Rangers, with their backs to the wall defeated the Maroons by a score of 6-4 in game 4 to tie the series and send it into a 5th and deciding game. Played Wednesday evening at First Nations Arena, the Rangers and the Maroons fought a hard 1st and 2nd period with the Rangers up 1-0 after two on a goal by Nathan D'Angelo. D'Angelo scored his second to make it 2-0 early in the 3rd and then the Rangers exploded with goals by Paul Morabito, Steve Germain and Spencer Garbet. Tyler Randle preserved the shutout to end the game 5-0 and give the Rangers their 2nd championship in four years. Congrats to all the players, coaches and parents for a great year!
